So much of life is constantly changing.
Seasons change. Circumstances change. Relationships change. Our bodies change. Even our thoughts and emotions can shift from one day to the next.
But God does not.
The immutability of God means that His nature and character never change. He has always been—and will always be—exactly who He is.
He cannot lie because He is truth.
He cannot be unjust because He is perfectly just.
He cannot cease to be good because goodness is part of His very nature.
He cannot become unfaithful because faithfulness is who He is.
He is fully perfect, lacking nothing and needing nothing. He is self-sufficient, steady and constant, enduring and everlasting.
There is something deeply reassuring about knowing that the God we trust today is the same God who has been faithful throughout every generation. He does not become more loving on our good days or less loving on our difficult ones. His character is not altered by our circumstances, our emotions, or the uncertainty surrounding us.
There has never been a moment when God was anything less than completely God.
He does not grow in wisdom. He does not become more faithful. He does not need to improve upon His goodness. There is no better version of God still to come. He is, and always has been, fully perfect.
The One who was faithful yesterday is faithful today. And the One who is faithful today will still be faithful tomorrow.
My prayer is that as I move through all the changes life brings, I will grow in my confidence in the One who never changes. May I know Him more deeply for who He has always been – good, faithful, true, and forever the same.
