John 14:27 (NLT)
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
There are so many things in this world that promise peace.
We tell ourselves that if we can just get through this busy season… if the diagnosis comes back clear… if the finances improve… if the relationship is restored… then we’ll finally have peace.
But those kinds of peace are fragile because they’re dependent on circumstances. The moment life shifts, that peace can disappear.
Jesus offers something entirely different.
On the night before His crucifixion, knowing everything that was about to unfold, Jesus spoke these words to His disciples. He wasn’t promising a life free from hardship. In fact, He knew they would soon face fear, uncertainty, and grief.
Instead of promising an easier path, Jesus gave them something far greater—His peace.
A peace that remains when the future feels uncertain.
A peace that steadies our hearts when life doesn’t make sense.
A peace that reminds us God is still in control, even when everything around us feels out of control.
The world tells us to find peace by changing our circumstances. Jesus invites us to find peace by trusting His presence.
The psalmist Asaph came to understand this truth as well:
“Yet I still belong to You; You hold my right hand. You guide me with Your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but You? I desire You more than anything on earth.” — Psalm 73:23–25 (NLT)
This is the heart of lasting peace. It isn’t found in having everything we want or every question answered. It is found in knowing that we belong to God, that He is faithfully guiding us, and that His presence is our greatest treasure. When He becomes our deepest desire, our circumstances no longer have the final say over our hearts.
Because true peace isn’t found in having all the answers—it’s found in knowing the One who does.
Today, whatever is weighing on your heart, remember that Jesus didn’t simply speak about peace. He gave it as a gift. We don’t have to earn it or manufacture it. We simply receive it through faith, resting in the One who holds our hand, faithfully guides us and never leaves our side.
My Prayer
I thank God for His incredible gift of peace. When fear, uncertainty, or worry begin to fill my heart, may I remember His peace is not dependent on my circumstances but on His unchanging presence. Help me to trust Him more than my fears and to rest in the confidence that He is always at work, even when I cannot see what He is doing. May His peace guard my heart and mind today, and may my life reflect the calm confidence that comes from knowing Him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
