1 Samuel 30:1–20
Have you ever confused your own voice and will with the Lord’s?
In 1 Samuel, we see David walk through a season where he becomes distracted and a bit off course. He hasn’t abandoned God, but he has stepped outside of where God intended him to be. And yet, God faithfully brings him back.
“But David found strength in the Lord his God.” — 1 Samuel 30:6
David’s turning point comes when he humbles himself before the Lord. Instead of trying to control the situation, he seeks God’s direction — and in that place of surrender, he finds strength in the Lord his God.
I was reminded of this in a simple, everyday moment.
I recently started transitioning my pup, Daisy, from dry food to raw food. I was a little concerned because she has a habit of taking her food out of the bowl and onto the carpet (not ideal 😅). So I was told to ease her into it — half old food, half new.
Well… she had other plans.
She carefully picked around the old food and ate only the new.
And it made me pause.
Isn’t that sometimes how we approach God’s Word?
We pick out the parts that resonate with us… the ones that feel good, easy, or familiar — and we leave the rest behind.
But God’s truth isn’t meant to be picked apart. It’s meant to be received in full.
When we start choosing what aligns with our preferences instead of submitting to His truth, it’s easy to drift — just like David did. But the beauty of our God is this: He doesn’t leave us there.
He gently calls us back.
When we humble ourselves and seek Him, He restores, redirects, and strengthens us. Because of Jesus, we already share in the victory — we just have to return, listen, and follow.
What a gracious and patient God we serve.
I pray that I can hear His voice clearly, leading me in the way I should go and teaching me to live in a way that honors Him always.
