“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” — Psalm 145:18
I don’t know how many of you can relate, but my little pup, Daisy, absolutely hates fireworks.
The moment they begin, she starts shaking uncontrollably. No matter what I do, she can’t seem to settle down unless I hold her close against my chest.
Watching her this weekend made me stop and think…
It’s not her fear that caught my attention—it was where she found peace.
When the fireworks started, she didn’t need an explanation. She didn’t need to understand what was happening around her. She simply wanted to be held close by someone she trusted.
How often do we forget to do the same?
When life feels loud, uncertain, or overwhelming, our first instinct is often to figure everything out ourselves. We worry. We strive. We search for answers. Yet God invites us to do something much simpler—draw near to Him.
“But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things You do.”
— Psalm 73:28
Just as Daisy found peace when she was held close, we find lasting peace when we rest in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
Daisy didn’t need the fireworks to stop before she found peace. She found peace because she was close to someone she trusted.
Isn’t that true for us, too?
God doesn’t always remove the storm, quiet the noise, or answer our questions immediately. More often, He invites us into His presence. And in His presence, we find the peace we’ve been searching for.
Whatever you’re facing today, draw near to Him. You may discover that the greatest gift isn’t the absence of the storm, but the presence of the One who holds you through it.
My prayer is that when life feels loud, uncertain, or overwhelming, my first response would be to draw near to God. That He will help me resist the urge to carry my burdens on my own or search for peace in my own strength. Instead, reminding me that He is my shelter, my refuge, and the One who holds me securely. Teaching me to trust Him even when I don’t understand. Finding comfort in His presence, confidence in His promises, and peace that can only come from Him. May He draw me closer to His heart each day, and may my life reflect the hope and security that are found in Him alone.
